Scope and General Purpose of Position:
Evaluate, educate and motivate fitness centre staff in matters concerning health and fitness of members/guests and staff. Responsible for fitness instruction, selection of activities and departmental assignments. Administer overall Fitness Centre, Membership and Aerobics. Provide uncompromised attention to guest/member service.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Training fitness staff in:
‑ Member management skills
‑ Public relations
‑ Sales techniques
‑ Motivation
‑ Fitness testing and exercise instruction
2. Develop and direct safe exercise programmes
3. Develop and administer and co‑ordinate programmes including Aerobics and special programmes
4. Administer exercise prescriptions.
5. Develop criteria for fitness evaluations.
6. Recognize contraindications to exercise.
7. Develop and assist with promotional activities.
8. Develop proper forms for correspondence with medical referrals and informed consent.
9. Conduct departmental staff meetings.
10. Set goals for department: membership, equipment, staffing, and programmes.
11. Maintain and sanitize equipment.
12. Evaluate potential business and programmes to increase spa's financial performance.
13. Responsible for member fitness assessments, to include, but not limited to:
‑ Guest interviews
‑ Strength and flexibility assessments
‑ Body composition analysis
‑ Sub max. exercise tests
‑ Personalized exercise programme development and implementation
14. Exercise leadership to include:
‑ Aerobic Classes where applicable
‑ Cardiovascular conditioning
‑ Stretching
‑ Strength training
‑ Martial Arts where applicable
15. Instruct and council members in all areas of exercise prescription, nutrition and stress Management.
16. Assist members/guests in setting realistic, obtainable fitness goals and objectives.
17. Develop and coordinate all special events at the Fitness Centre.
18. Participate actively in all scheduled meetings, emergency drills, training sessions and community events promoting the facility.
19. Develop and implement marketing strategies which will enhance the quality of services at the facility.
20. Supervise and evaluate all employee fitness and/or public relation training events.
21. Supervise and evaluate all student interns, if used.
22. Train and guide all fitness staff in proper membership relation guidelines.
23. Review all materials which are displayed on bulletin boards.
24. Complete all administrative forms necessary for efficient functioning.
25. Maintain a professional image at all times while dressing properly and speaking positively on behalf of the facility.
26 Present an appropriate fitness model to members by staying in shape.
27. Design and implement all controls for classes which may include attendant sheets and starting/stopping times.
Administrative Duties:
1. Effective scheduling of all Fitness Consultants and Aerobics Instructors.
2. Development and adherence of Standard Operating Procedures Manual.
3. To maintain inventory of supplies for the operations of the Fitness Centre.
4. To maintain accurate records as required by provincial regulations.
5. To conduct selection interviews for new hires as and when required.
6. To conduct weekly/monthly departmental communication meetings and to represent Fitness Centre departmental meetings.
Health and Safety:
1. Follow and ensure that all employees all safety procedures and practices.
2. Development and adherence of Fitness Centre departmental Emergency Procedures/Safety Manual.
3. Ensure all departments adhere to all safety practices of the hotel.
Financial Responsibilities:
1. Maintain the facility in peak condition at all times while adhering to all aspects of the operations budget, including payroll.
2. To prepare and present monthly budget reports and to assist in the preparation of annual operations budget.
3. To develop and implement programmes to enhance Fitness Centre revenue.
4. Monitor and effectively control Fitness Centre payroll and expenses.
5. To sell and co‑ordinate all aspects of memberships included but not limited to new membership sales and re‑newals adherance and incentive programmes.
Employee Relations:
1. To ensure Fitness Centre maintains a positive relationship with all departments in the Spa and Hotel.
2. Responsible for all aspects of Fitness Centre employees i.e.. hiring, recognition, progressive corrective action ...
3. Responsible for the efficient training of all Fitness Centre/Aerobics employees in all aspects of job tasks.
4. To ensure employees have a complete understanding of and adhere to the hotel's policy relating to safety
5. Responsible for all Spa departments training in pertinent emergency procedures and ensuring all departments are well versed in Fitness Centre operations (cross training).
6. To ensure all employees adhere to all hotel standards as stated in the employee handbook.
7. To conduct Fitness Centre department performance appraisals on a timely manor.
Guest Service:
1. To ensure the facility is in peak condition at all times (operations and cleanliness).
2. To ensure guest/member satisfaction at all times by ensuring that safety and service is always the Spa's first priority.
Other Duties:
1. Ensure cross‑training of all employees in Fitness Centre department and to facilitate training in other spa departments.
2. To carry out any other duties and responsibilities as assigned. |
