Joint Second: Glion Institute of Higher Education, Glion & Bulle, Switzerland
Glion is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The institute was founded to cater to the boom in tourism alongside the dawn of the age of the major hotel chain.
It began with just 15 students in 1962, humble beginnings compared to the 1600 students it now trains and educates. The Glion Institute Governing Board includes the owner of Star Hotel in France, a director of Webster University in Geneva and the dean of the University of Rhode Island in the U.S.
Its advisory board consists of professionals in key positions in the service industry, and it has 50 full-time and 27 part-time faculty. Glion offers hospitality management programs at undergraduate, graduate and post graduate levels. The school considers applicants' academic records, work experience, extracurricular activities, test scores and letters of recommendation before admission.
