D&D is accessed from Khao San via a wide corridor where you can pick up tailored clothes, souvenirs and tour bookings. The continuation of touts straight up to your hotel’s front door is a little annoying, but it provides a buffer between most rooms and the formidable late-night street noise. We often receive reports of mixed service and difficulty in making reservations, though to be fair, we’d imagine the staff here have to put up with a lot.

The place is truly cavernous, with seven floors set around an open inner section that provides minimal natural light for those rooms that face it. Rooms can be musty until you let the air-con run for a while. Some have small balconies to let in fresh air, though it’s wise to request one away from the street if you’re not up for late-night partying. The hotel has a lift and all rooms require a key-card for entry.
